February 25, Wednesday. We finally left Ushuaia last night at about 10:30 PM and we woke up this morning to beautiful scenery—OMG, I got to see my first glacier and then they just kept coming and they are beautiful and the blue in them in awesome! Everyone says it looks a lot like Alaska but currently we are cruising the Chilean Fjords. You just can’t believe how beautiful and pristine it is here and you just can’t stop taking pictures! We have watched this all day on both sides of the ship and it was fun to be up on the deck and it’s cold—we are all in coats and gloves, etc. and the crew are out there looking as well with their cameras and they are excited when we offer to take a picture of them with the glaciers in the background. Even the crew is excited to be seeing this as soom have never seen snow. On the other hand, there are those who are bitching that we missed Punta Arenas today and that Carnival did it on purpose for some reason—that logic is unbelievable to me but we did sail by there today which made the mob even angrier. It was quite calm and sunny when we passed it and looked like a nice little city. Bigger than I had pictured. We had a naturalist that did narration all afternoon and our final mark was to see the Southern Cross which we passed at 5:15 this afternoon. This is the end of the South American continent and where the Andes mountains end into the Strait of Magellan which is where we are cruising now. Our next major sighting is at 9:15 tomorrow morning. We have passed through several squals tonight which really seem to come out of nowhere and the wind is really strong and it stirs up the wave action—good for sleeping. We are getting ready to take our cold medicine and head to bed so we can be up and ready tomorrow. It is really hard to believe this trip is almost over. The time has flown by with so many things to see and do. Someone else passed away today we heard through the ship’s gossip line and the person taken off last night was gone as well—we are fine though…LOL
